These 5 does although not owned by Till-Riv Farm, plus our very own Cinnamon, are all a major influence on our herd!!! I believe in the power of exceptional doe lines and almost our entire herd and/or coming kid crop descends from these AMAZING does. They are being blended together and I am very exited about the results that we are seeing so far!!!
OUR NIGERIAN HERD
Being a long time Nubian breeder in my waning years on a small retirement acreage, I was satisfied with what I had accomplished with my herd up to that point and never expected to take on a new venture. I did my first Linear Appraisal in the summer of 2017. During that appraisal, I was convinced to actually try my hand at showing them. I had shown a lot of dairy cattle when younger, but had never shown a goat! That fall, I entered the Washington State Fair and it changed my life forever!!!
While killing time waiting for the Nubian classes to begin, I decided to watch the Nigerians show. I was amazed at how far the breed had come since I had not paid any attention to them since the first few times I had seen them years before. Later that day, I was shown a Nigerian kid that was being offered for sale. She had been the 2nd place Junior kid in the show that morning. I fell in love with her! I did not know anything about Nigerian lines, but was told that she wrote a pretty good pedigree (which it was!) and I bit.
Since then, many more have followed and the Nubian herd has been dwindling. Now, Nigerians make up the majority of the herd! I have focused on a few families with both outstanding milk production and conformation. I also pay a lot of attention to disposition as life is to short to deal with a wild, flighty animal! I have been very careful about what I have assembled for the beginnings of my herd and feel like there are many great things to come!!!
Please enjoy your visit to these pages and let me know if there is anything that I can do to help you!!! THANKS!!!
